Hi! I'm Jeannie, as you may have guessed and I live in the Phoenix area (SE Valley). I'm so excited to find this. I've been collecting rocks I think since I could walk. lol. I had boxes full of them by 2nd grade and I saw amazing beauty in each and every one. It was so exciting when I made the amazing discovery that they looked magical when you got them wet. Of course now I know I wasn't the only one who had that secret.
I desperately wanted to go to Lapidary College right after high school and my dad said he wouldn't pay for that because it wasn't "real college". But I never lost the desire.
Each of my kids was interested in rocks in one way or another, one in gems and beads (like me) and the youngest is my rock hunting partner when she's in town. We were amazed to find marine fossils up in the mountains of the desert. Probably none of this is new to any of you, but it was pretty exciting to us.
I strung beads in high school, and started again in the mid nineties with my kids. I started making jewelry with bead weaving and designing in 2000 and I decided to learn how to make my own beads a few years later. I have been a lampworker (handmade glass bead maker) for about 6 years and I'm just starting some wire wrapping and metalsmithing. I would LOVE my own lapidary equipment, especially for cabbing.
Ok, so I hope this wasn't the longest introduction you've ever had. hehe I look forward to learning more and getting to know more of you!
